The top 5 accessories that everyone needs in their home!!Show/Hide
During my time as an interior designer I have been seen a common theme of missing accessory items in my client’s homes. That has led me to creating this list of items that are a must have for all homes. These items are what really makes your house feel like and home.
It’s a good rule of theme to have at least 3 books on your coffee table, and to have them coordinate with the colors of your room. So if your room is mainly brown with some accent colors such as red, then buy at least one brown book and one red book. Books are so versatile and easy to accessorize with. You can use books to accessorize nightstands, entry consoles, sofa tables, and much more. They also create great dimension by lifting up your decor and creating different layers and levels of decor.

I just love designing & decorating spaces for children, and wish that I had more opportunities to do so. It’s not always an easy job, but you are allowed much more creative freedom when choosing colors and themes. Some of your children might still be too young to tell you what styles and colors they like or they may not even be interested in the process. However, any kid will appreciate a newly made over room in which they can share with friends. Just follow these simple guidelines and get started designing!
Developing a Theme If you need help picking out a theme then don’t focus on coming up with a kitsch theme such as “marine life” or “flowers”. Just start the room design by focusing on general interests such as “music” or “photography”. This will allow the space to truly reflect the child even if they are not part of the actual decorating process.
Do your cabinets need a facelift? Don't restain them, glaze them!Show/Hide
Due to the current economy kitchen remodels are a big part of my business, so I am often looking for affordable ways to give kitchens a fresh updated look. However, 99% of my clients have the typical 80's golden oak or milk washed cabinets, and are looking for an affordable way to bring them up to date.
Since replacing them or restaining them can be a very expensive process, I recommend that clients have the cabinets glazed instead. With glazing the cabinets look so rich and much more expensive than simply restaining. The glaze gives the cabinets many more dimensions and highlights the cabinets trim detail.
Glazing can be done in brown or red tones to enhance the current wood look, or they can be painted colors such as beige, green, or black first and then finished off with a cream or brown glaze. My painter will actually take one of your doors and glaze the inside of it to show you exactly what the end result will look like. I also recommend that my client's do not try to do this themselves and that they hire a professional. Glazing is an art and applying it properly is very important in order to complete the desired look.
staging a home there is a fine line between nicely arranged
and too busy. So I try to follow a few simple rules.
1. Group similar objects
2. Keep balance by using both large and small accessories
3. Do not use too many picture frames.
4. Change out your accessories during the different seasons
to give the room a new and fresh feel.
